What family historians say about The Ancestor File.

I’m a person who has done genealogy for years, but it has been through Family Tree Maker and Family Search. I am starting over with my direct ancestors with this kit, as I felt that I needed to do this on paper. The directions in the kit are very detailed and informative as to how to start the process. The forms are very helpful and straightforward. I highly recommend this kit.

Questions before you buy.

What is the difference between The Ancestor File and The Complete Genealogy Library?

The Ancestor File is one 61-page research system: charts, ancestor records, source sheets, research logs, DNA and brick-wall worksheets. The Complete Genealogy Library includes The Ancestor File plus four more products (the Family Tree Chart Set, the Family History Binder, The Ancestor Book and The Old Country File), so it also covers presenting a finished family and researching an immigrant ancestor’s home village.

Is this a physical binder?

No. You receive PDF files by email straight after payment, in US Letter and A4. Print the pages you need at home or at a copy shop and keep them in a ring binder. Nothing is shipped.

Do I need family-tree software to use it?

No. The pages work on paper alone. If you already use Family Tree Maker, Ancestry or FamilySearch, use the binder for research questions, sources and negative results that software trees often lose.

Is it suitable for a beginner?

Yes. Each product starts with a quick-start page, and The Ancestor File includes ten pages filled in for an invented family, so you can see a well-kept file before writing in your own.

Can I give it as a gift?

Yes. Buy it with your own email, then print the first section, put it in a good binder and add a note. For a family historian who already researches, the Library is the more complete gift.

What if it is not right for me?

You can ask for a full refund within 30 days of purchase, even after downloading. No reason is needed.
